A Guide to Great Engagement photos

from our blog at
www.lindleysphotography.com/blog

I have been working on a personal Blog for all of my wonderful Brides, and here is a recent post that I posted on Engagement Session Photos…

Here You go!

I have a TON of engagement sessions coming up, and I am so excited about all of them. I wanted to posted a few tips I will be sharing with my brides on how to have a Great Engagement Session!

Your engagement session is a portrait style session of you and your fiance as a couple prior to your wedding that is most often used for announcements and for images for you to display at your wedding. Your engagement session with us here at Lindley’s Photography will include formal portraits, as well our favorite, candid shots of you and your fiance being yourselves. That can be you both laughing with each other, walking down the street at the park, and so much more. Engagement sessions are a great way for your photographers to get to know you better, as well as you getting a chance to get to know your photographer better. I personally absolutely love shooting these sessions. It is a great opportunity for me to capture all those moments that show who you are as a couple. As you prepare for your engagement session you may be curious about what to expect. Here is my little guide to you that will help give you tips and suggestions to planning your session and to get some great photos of you and your fiance that you will treasure for many many years to come.

1. Scheduling your session with your Photographer

When you schedule your Engagement Session with your Photographer you will quickly find that is one of the best ways for you to get to know each other before your big day! Personally, I always look forward to engagement session with our Bride and Grooms, as it gives me some great one on one time with them, and I also learn lots of great new things about the couple. The best part about this is the more we (Jared and I with Lindley’s Photography) get to know the couple, the better we will be able to tell the couple’s story through our photos. Before your session, you may want to look through your photographer’s website, or on their blog. Hopefully this will give you some ideas for your own session. Finally, when you schedule your session, be sure to let your photographer know what your vision is for your photos.

2. Choosing your location

The location that you choose for your session can really add to the look and feel of your photographs. With our engagement sessions, we almost always do some scenic images of the location chosen by our Bride and Groom, as well as close-ups of the couple. We find that this gives our couples a wider variety of images to choose from and some great memories for you to treasure. When you are choosing a location, be sure that you or your photographer has contacted the facility about any rules or regulations for photography and make any arrangements that may be necessary. We always try to encourage our couples to select a location that will help tell the story of their personalities and personal style. If they arent quite sure, we are happy to make some suggestions. One last thing to consider when choosing your location is if your options will still be available if the weather is bad, or if your photographer will be able to re-schedule due to bad weather.

3. Picking out what to wear!

To help in the selection process, I encourage my couples to choose a clothing style that they feel comfortable in and something that matches their personalities. Every couple is different so what works for some may not work for others. I have some couples that choose to dress alike while others don’t even consider that as an option. As long as you compliment each other in style of dress and color, you should be fine. Some couples wear jeans while others wear suits and dresses. Whatever you choose, the more comfortable you are, the more genuine you will come across in your photos during your session. Also, keep in mind that if you do choose to wear a dress or a skirt, your photographer may be limited in the type posing that you can do. So, if you can’t decide between dressy and casual, we will be more than happy to allow a clothing change during the session. You may also want to avoid clothing that has busy logos or designs as it can detract from your facial expressions. Bottom line, wear what makes you feel best! If you feel pretty, it will show in your smile, and it will show in your photos.

5. And the best for last… HAVE FUN, and be yourself!!

We always find that the more fun that you have as a couple the better your personalities and awesome expressions will show through in your photos. So, PLEASE, don’t be shy at all about cuddling, sneaking in a kiss, and laughing during your session. This helps achieve the goal of capturing who you are as a couple.

I hope that this will help you while planning your engagement session. Most important of all is that you have a great time. congratulations on your engagement!

Congrats B and N

Congrats to B and N for an absolutely beautiful wedding! We had a great time getting to know the couple a little better, and we were also able to see a recent Bride and Groom of ours who were just married in January.
B's dress was stunning, and she looked like a princess! N looked handsome in his tux and was such a great sport when it came to taking photos. Here is a preview of some of our favorite photos!
